I prefer to work with adults. Adults who come to me for lessons are confident that studying non-standard violin or mandolin styles is what they want. These adults know what they want and are committed to practicing, and staying motivated to continue with lessons. Many of these adults are so motivated, in fact, that they frequently participate in the various group classes I offer.
While I deeply appreciate it when parents contact me about lessons for their child, it is EXTREMELY RARE that I will take a child as a student. Here are the exceptions to this rule:
- The child must be willing to attend one 60 minute lesson a week. They must be able to participate wholly during that time and they must be able to stay focused for the duration.
- The child must commit to a minimum of 4 years of lessons. Why 4 and not 3 or not 5? Because 4 is the minimum number of years for a child to learn how to play an instrument, and apply the music theory and posture skills they learn during this time to becoming a committed music student.
- Parents must indicate their willingness and ability to pay for 4 years of lessons, one a week for 52 weeks a year, and demonstrate their financial ability to cover the cost. Costs may include purchase of sheet music, music books, strings, bows and other accessories and/or the cost of instrument rental. Total cost between $13,500 - $15,000 depending on related costs.
As always, if you think your child is motivated and you are prepared to cover the costs, please, by all means, use the contact form on the sidebar. I definitely want to hear from YOU.
