About

Hi!  My name’s Adam Sweet.  I play and teach mandolin and violin-family instruments (mandolin, mandola, mandocello, violin, viola).  I’m the co-founder of Mandolin New England, co-founder of the traditional Irish duo Celticado, and the acoustic country and bluegrass trio The Americana Project.  I have a BA in Ethnomusicology and Music Therapy from Hampshire College where I graduated in 1985.  I opened my studio in 1986 and have been teaching adults, teenagers and children over 10 how to play violin-family and mandolin-family instruments and coaching small groups.
  • Listen to me play fiddle with Celticado, a traditional Irish wedding duo I co-founded with Jim Bunting.
  • Listen to me play mandolin and fiddle with The Americana Project, an acoustic country/bluegrass trio I co-founded with M. Terry Atkinson and Dimitri Eleftherakis.
  • I’m ta co-founder of Mandolin New England.  Here’s a video of our debut performance with our friends L’Esperance out of Providence, RI.
  • If you would like to take lessons on the violin or mandolin (or anything else), information including a schedule of availability is here.
  • In addition to teaching private lessons, I typically teach three groups: a mandolin for beginners group, an advanced mandolin group and a Celtic/Folk group.  Information about the groups can be found here
  • I performed Celtic and Klezmer music in a World Music Festival at the Great Pyramids in Egypt in 1999.  Below are some pictures.
  • I have taught music at the Northampton Community Music Center, the Keene Community Music Center and the Belchertown Community Music Center.
